When to use what color?

Basic mascara rules are simple: Black works for everyone but can be harsh on light-skinned blondes.  Blondes should opt for brown/black by day and reserve black for night. Blue mascara brightens blue eyes while purple mascara makes brown eyes pop. So, pick your color, and make your plans.

Here are some quick tips on how best to apply mascara, and some things to watch for.

• How best to apply your mascara
  Make sure to wiggle the wand at the base of the lashes as mascara at the base will give that desired look of length.  Continue to wiggle the wand as you put it up and through the lashes.  Lastly, close your eyes and pull the wand straight from the base to the tips to remove and clumps.
• Buy and use disposable wands
  These are relatively inexpensive, and give you a clean applicator each time.  You can also use a capful of eye makeup remover to clean the wand after every use, so that it is ready to use again later.
• Mix it up
  To use a trick that professional artist use, make sure to apply a lengthening mascara first, the follow with a thickening mascara.
• Prime the lashes first
  By applying a primer first, you will separate the lashes.
• Go with the Tops only
  Apply mascara to the top lashes only, thus giving a dramatic look.
• The zigzag is your friend
  Using a zigzag motion when applying mascara cuts down on clumps.
• Blink so that brush applies extra to the tips
  Make sure you do the base first.  Blinking into the brush will add extra to the end of the lashes.
• Apply again before drying
  If you want to have a second coat of mascara, be sure to put it on right away.  Don’t let that first coat dry.
• Curl after application
  Curled lashes add so much.  Yes, you can curl after application.
• Take a long pause
  You want to be sure to let the mascara dry before you blink, so your lashes do not act as paint brushes.
